Segment 12 again

I know everyone wants this to be about the WCRV broadcast, but I do not think the broadcast is the first bad record.

The old WCRV archive page used to list a source basis under the Segment 12 transcript. I remember it because it did not look like the other tape references.

↓ after June 14 rebuild ↓
Emergency Services Summary

That line is gone after the June 14 rebuild. Now it just says emergency services summary, which is a lot less specific and a lot more convenient.

I saved the call duplicate last year when the mirror was still up. It is not clean. The audio drops in the middle. The caption card is wrong in at least two places. But the important part is still there.

The caller does not say crowd.
The caller says truck.

At 21:42, the caller says there is one white truck near the loading area. Not people. Not a demonstration. A truck.

The public summary later says:

crowd outside facility prior to visible smoke

That is not the same observation.

Maybe someone made a transcription mistake. Maybe the dispatcher misheard. Maybe WCRV copied from a bad summary. I do not know.

But the routing card at the end of the duplicate is what I cannot get past.

NCRO Review

I do not know why a fire call duplicate would be sent to a company that writes broadcast continuity copy.

I do not know why the public summary was generated before the full transcript was marked complete.

And I do not know why V-13 filed a correction two days later that was never aired.

But I know this much.

The bad record did not start with the anchor.
The anchor just read it.

If the image disappears again, look for CSG.

Why does WCRV mark missing tapes as restored?

Went back through the tape index from last fall. At least four entries listed as restored have no corresponding file in the public mirror. The status field just says restored with no date and no source ID. That should not be possible if they are using the standard notation...

The Grayhill evacuation captions are wrong

The captions on the Grayhill segment say the evacuation order was issued at 22:10. The MFD public log says 21:58. That is twelve minutes and I do not think it is a formatting error. The caption card looks like it was keyed separately from the broadcast timecode...

A note about public summaries

Public summaries are not transcripts. I want to be clear about that because I keep seeing people cite them as if they are. A public summary is produced after the fact, usually by a records coordinator, and it does not carry the same evidentiary weight as a primary tape or a signed dispatch log. When the only thing on file is a summary, that is worth noting...

North Meridian blackout tape index

Posting the partial index I put together from the public records request last month. Forty-one entries. Eleven have no source ID. Three are listed as reviewed with no reviewer code. One is listed under a routing destination I had not seen before. Will post more when I have time to go through the rest...

Correction logs nobody aired

There is a standard procedure for on-air corrections. A station files a correction notice, it goes in the log, it airs within a reasonable window. What I have been finding in the Meridian County records is a set of correction notices that were filed, logged, and never aired. Nobody announced them. Nobody updated the archive page. They just exist in the log as open items...
